My Taekwondo Goals:
1. To create and support a strong and vibrant branch of Songahm Taekwondo in Sweden.
2. To find personal happiness by being open to the opportunities around me whilst not neglecting existing commitments.
3. To always remain a resource for my Taekwondo students, present as well as former, and help them in any way that I am able.

Instructor:
Senior Master Mal Kun Lee, 7th degree.

My personal Taekwondo history:
I have had the privilege of working with several excellent instructors. My first instructor was Mr Jordan Schreiber, who showed me the beauty of Songahm and is still an example of technical excellence and excellent values to me (www.bay-ata.com). I thank him for installing in me the love for this art which has thrived in me since I first started my training with him at Harvard in September 1994.

In the summer of 1997, Mr Anton Hattingh and Mr Chris Griffith worked me hard and helped me reach 1st dan. Mr Hattingh also encouraged me to open a school in Sweden. Though I initially told Mr. Hattingh I wasn't interested in starting a club, I did just that in September 1997.

In 1999, I attended my first World Chamionships. The future Master Kathy Lee was kind enough to help me with my training and preparations for the event and I managed to win the open forms competition with perfect scores (9s and an 8 on the overall for missing a ki-hap). As you can tell, I am still proud of that ;o).

The following year, Senior Master M.K. Lee came to the WTTU camp in Norway hosted by Mr Ole Skarning and myself. Since then, Sr Master MK Lee and I have been in frequent contact and he even hosted a camp in Lund in 2003. Sr Master MK also helped us contact Sr Master Westbrook, who hosted the camp held in 2004.

During my years in Songahm Taekwondo, I have had the privilege to meet and work out with several amazing instructors. Thank you Mr Schreiber, Mr Hattingh, Mr Griffith, Senior Master Kathy Lee, Senior Master M.K. Lee, Chief Master G.K. Lee, and Grand Master Soon Ho Lee. I have special affection and gratitude for the instructors and students in North Little Rock, who have let me work out there and spend personal time with themselves and their families whenever I have been in Little Rock.

Special thanks also Senior Master Westbrook for travelling all the way to Sweden in service of Songahm Taekwondo and to Mr Thomas Landrum for introducing me to double weapons practice. May you always fare well.

Thank you Eternal Grand Master, for giving Songahm Taekwondo to us all and for setting such a great personal example of kindness, self sacrifice, self discipline, and for showing us a world of possibilities.

Education:
June 1995: BA, Harvard University, Modern European History, Cum Laude in General Studies.
July 1998: Certified Instructor, Songahm Taekwondo, Little Rock, USA.
January 2000: Licensed Physical Therapist, University of Lund.
February 2002: Licensed Masseur, Wat Po, Bangkok, Thailand.

Other Professional Experience:
1987-90 and 1995-96: Non-profit volleyball instructor (LUGI Volleyboll, Lund, Sweden).
January 2000 – September 2000: Physical Therapist (neurological-, cardiological-, and orthopedic rehabilitation, Hässleholms Sjukhus, Sweden).
September 2000-September 2001: Associate Consultant (Silver Oak Partners, Brussels, Belgium & Boston, USA).
January 2006-Present: English Teacher, Bumrungrad International Hospital, Bangkok, Thailand.

Other Interests:
Self improvement. Cooking, tennis, golf, dancing, and finance. PADI Rescue Diver och Shark Diver.

Songahm Taekwondo in Sweden:
I have found a successful system for running part time clubs here in Sweden, which I am willing to share with other licensed instructors of Songahm Taekwondo in order to spread this wonderful and much needed system here in Sweden. Due to the strong political influence on athletic organizations here, a full time school here is not a wise investment at this time. I have decided to move to Thailand, and have therefore spent much time preparing my Instructor Trainees and the board members so that they will be able to manage the club efficiently. The groundwork for continued success has been laid over the last eight years, and I am confident that the club will be able to survive and even continue to grow without me.

Personal:
Born in Delaware, USA, I was raised by my Swedish grandmother in Sweden. She also took care of my mother, who suffered from a very aggressive form of Multiple Sclerosis (MS). My mother died when I was 18. After my high school graduation and a short stint in the Swedish army, I was accepted at Harvard University. I graduated from Harvard in 1995, but since my Swedish grandmother had died during my junior year, I decided to return to Sweden instead of pursuing a career in consulting or investment banking. In Sweden, I became inactive and started studying economics at an un-stimulating pace. I eventually quit and re-oriented myself by starting to study physical therapy instead. I also started a Taekwondo club which I have been running to this day. After three years of physical therapy studies and 8 months at a Swedish Hospital, I was offered one job as an investment consultant and one as a business consultant. Knowing that these opportunities were unlikely to return, I took the business consultant job and started working in Brussels. During the time I worked in Brussels, I returned to Sweden on weekends to teach Taekwondo to my students. I also fell in love with a woman in Denmark. Once the project in Belgium was over, I moved to my main office in Boston for the summer of 2001, but decided that I had better return to my students and to my lovelife. Unfortunately, the romance had already died, so I focused on my students and took temporary jobs to put food on the table. I had well-developed plans to start a major Taekwondo school in Sweden, but local non-profit regulations and competitive disadvantages for private enterprises convinced me to cancel those plans. Instead I trained my students to take over the club and moved to Thailand, where I am enjoying new challenges and life in general. The way my students have taken over the club si a great source of pride to me, and I still keep in touch with them on a daily basis.

Taekwondo Goals:
My goal with my training is to be able to make a living practicing and teaching Taekwondo. To be able to do this I have to take several different steps.

Step 1. Join the Instructors program.
This is a step which I have allready begun with, at precent time I am to take step two in the program.

Step 2. To continuesly work with my way of teaching.
This step is one which is constantly challenging me and my way of teaching why everyone learns in different manners. Many learn things in similar ways, so a base of teaching would be good to develop, while the details to different stanses or kicks must be taught individually.

Step 3. To be dedicated towards my instructor, who is my link towards other ways of teaching and who have taught me most things I know about martialarts.

Step 4. To work with the ability to make as good practices as possible, to work at getting a practice book in which I can look at what makes out the basis of a practice and what makes a good practice great.

Step 5. To continually inspire myself with movies, books, seminars and such to increace my knowledge about martialarts.

Step 6. To try and inspire the ones I train with my inspiration.

Step 7. To never stop trying to develop.

My Instructor:
Mr. Nils Bastedo

Education:
June 2003, Graduated from Madison Comprehensive High School, Ohio.

June 2005, Graduated from Vipeholm High School with a diploma in Electrical Science.

University: History of ideas and learning, rethorics

Personal:
At the moment I am having a great time here on earth. Spring is upon us with a little bit rain now and then but that's life.

In Mr. Nils Bastedos' absence in Thailand I have been instructing in our groups, and I've got to say that I'm most proud of everyone. Everybody is practicing like there is no tomorrow. Everyone is making progress, everyone helps in making our practices lunds most fun, to have fun during practice in something I consider extremely important. To have fun while learning things are two things one should try to combine as best can.

I'm doing my best to make each practice as varied and as educational as possible. I enjoy pushing myself to come up with new ways of warm up, new kick and punch combinations and various drills to help others to control their body in a way that a martial artist should be able to.

Now when Mr. Bastedo have moved to Thailand he has left a great responsibility on mine and Ragnars shoulders, but he has also given us a great gift in form of a fully functional club that, in large, take care of itself. It is a club where I gladly spend a part of my spare time, and with hope I'm looking forward to spending yet a few hours in the facilities we train in.

Personal:
This season has really started out great. I was afraid that I would loose my intrest in taekwondo when Nils left but Daniel has really done a great job taking over. Since Daniel took over instructing group 1 I've become the instructor of group 2 which I really enjoy. I'm really looking forward to every training and I've also noticed how my instructing has helped me in many ways, not only in my taekwondo training but also in real life. I have really boosted my confidence, for example, it's now much more easy for me to talk to people I don't know, both in front of groups and in person.

Other Interests:

Personal:
At this point in my life, my two children occupy most of my spare time, which explains (combined with my move from Lund to nearby Malmö) my prolonged absence from LSTK. I keep my skills honed by working out with a group of martial artists from different styles (ITF, Kickboxning, Jiu-Jiutsu, Shotokan) once a week. Much of this training is focused on sparring and self defense, including knife defense, which I consider to be one of the most difficult martial science and extremely challenging.

I am currently employed as a financial controller by Beijer Electronics and enjoy my work very much. Before that, I worked as an accountant. Enjoying what I do is the most important thing for me, and therefore I often spend time reflecting on my life. My best advice to everyone is: 'If you don't like where you are going, switch tracks'.

Right now, my significant other and I are working on a very exciting business idea. Maybe we will make it happen, maybe not. Either way, the road to our intended target will be a great experience and perhaps even more rewarding than actually reaching the final goal.
